Press Start: PlayStation Network outage; first 'NCAA Football 11' details

Sony says they are trying to resolve issues surrounding the PlayStation Network after PS3 owners reported having trouble connecting online. According to this update on the official PlayStation blog, the issues seem to only affect the older, bulkier systems. Sony says they have "narrowed down the issue and have engineers working to restore service." Joystiq reports the glitch is also corrupting trophy data, and preventing users from even playing games offline. Stay tuned for more updates as Sony provides them.

- ESPN is reporting the first details of Electronic Arts' college pigskin title NCAA Football 11. The most notable addition mentioned is incorporating the Pro-Tak gang-tackling system found in Madden NFL. The other features cited seem pretty tame: referees visible on the field, dynamic conference logos, and auto-save were among those noted. But none of that will matter if the on-field action from last year's release isn't tweaked.

- An analysis of 130 studies published in an American Psychological Association journal suggests a link between violent video games and an increase in aggressive thoughts and a decrease in empathy. The studies analyzed focus on 130,000 players from elementary school age to college age in the United States. While lead researcher Craig Anderson admits the impact of video games isn't huge, it is "the only causal risk factor that is relatively easy for parents to do something about." A critique accompanying the analysis says the findings are "overestimating the influence" of video games when it comes to aggressive behavior.

- Finally, a light week for Nintendo downloadable releases, but one big title marks its arrival today: Mega Man 10. The new adventure follows the model of its retro video game predecessor Mega Man 9, as the game's lead character must try and stop a suspicious robot viral outbreak. For those players worried Mega Man 10 might be as difficult as the previous game, publisher Capcom will add an Easy Mode. Whew.
